OBI supplied 60 children in a local orphanage with a month's supply of rice and charcoal to help sustain them until more aid arrives.

MYANMAR (formerly Burma) - Operation Blessing's disaster relief specialist is on the ground in Myanmar, traveling by car and boat to reach the badly-hit delta region and strategize disaster relief efforts for thousands of survivors.

"We are told that there are camps of people forming in some towns, desperate for relief. The U.N. estimates that 1.9 million people are in need," he said.

Yesterday, OBI visited a local orphanage that had its roof destroyed.

"They told me that food was a priority need and that the orphanage's 60 children are already sick with intestinal problems and the lack of shelter is making things more difficult," he said.

The U.N. estimates 200,000 are missing and that the death toll will continue to rise due to lack of food, water and medical care.

OBI immediately purchased and delivered one month's worth of food and charcoal to help sustain the orphanage until further relief can arrive.

Waiting outside of Myanmar, Operation Blessing's German-based medical partner, Humedica has teams still waiting to gain access into the country plus other OBI teams in seven Asian countries are also waiting for visa approvals.

In the meantime, OBI continues to network on the ground with other major relief groups, such as UNICEF and World Food Program (WFP) to bring in food, water and other aid for survivors.

The U.N. now says an estimated 220,000 people are missing.
